Arts and craft - one subject
In Norwegian primary and lower secondary school, arts and craft are one subject. In the 1960 National Curriculum for primary and lower secondary schools the two subjects’ arts and craft were merged into on subject. From August 2020 the National Curriculum for primary, lower secondary and upper secondary education and training was replaced. Currently, the subject arts and craft includes craftmanship, art and design processes, visual communication, and cultural understanding. No other Nordic or European country seems to have developed a model like this.
The core curriculum applies to all primary and secondary education and training in Norway, and it is available in English.
